BI Evolves as Vertical Solutions Gain Traction

In a new report “Redefining Business Intelligence, Analytics, The Cloud and The Future,” Saugatuck Technology highlights PivotLink’s focus on the retail sector to illustrate how “a significant amount of innovation and market definition is occurring with smaller providers offering a limited focus” on “specific problem areas.” Saugatuck says,

“Businesses will need to make better use of BI, and a significant amount of that improvement will come from offerings in the Cloud.” The report also confirms “SaaS is today the most common method of BI provision from the Cloud,” adding, “the data suggests that between 40 to 44 percent of enterprises will have adopted Cloud-based BI / Analytic solutions by YE 2013 – up dramatically from what was installed at YE2011.”

Highlights:

  • Saugatuck says “Cloud-based BI solutions can provide a range of advantages over on-premises BI,” and lists PivotLink among the “examples of how these advantages have been used to drive the development and use of a variety of specialty offerings, as well as more broadly-based BI suites.” Saugatuck adds “PivotLink uses Cloud services to lower costs and integrate data from social sites with enterprise data to create insights about customers.”
  • Among key trends in the report, Saugatuck highlights: “A growth of template solutions focusing upon specific problems in specific vertical markets, as we see from vendors such as PivotLink.”
